President Donald Trump attacked Democrats Friday morning for “fighting so hard for sanctuary crime,” accusing them of diving further towards the political left.
“Hard to believe that the Democrats, who have gone so far LEFT that they are no longer recognizable, are fighting so hard for sanctuary crime,” Trump wrote on Twitter Friday morning.

Drawing a hard line on immigration has been a keystone issue for Trump since he launched his presidential campaign in 2015. The president has pledged to cut federal funding for so-called sanctuary cities that shield undocumented immigrants from deportation, insisting that such policies allow dangerous criminals to remain in the U.S.
But despite Trump’s pledge, many cities and some states have insisted on keeping in place their laws and policies protecting undocumented immigrants.
A funding blockade for sanctuary cities is among Trump’s list of demands for any immigration deal that could be struck to protect so-called “Dreamers,” undocumented immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children. Also among the president’s must-haves are funding for his long-promised wall along the U.S.-Mexico border and major changes to the asylum system.
The demands could scuttle a deal that Trump had reportedly reached with Democrats Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, putting Dreamers’ fate in question even as the president has suggested he could extend protections for them should Congress fail to act.
